Bio

Dr. Laurence (Larry) Heifetz is a board-certified medical oncologist and an expert in oncology programs, cancer centers, tele-cancer networks and oncology clinical care, quality and strategic growth models.

In Larry's role as an XCO Partner, he brings deep expertise and proven experience drawn from his more than 40-year oncology career. He started in private practice at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. In 1992, he was a Founding Partner of the Tower Hematology-Oncology Medical Group, which became part of Cedars-Sinai. Then in 2006, after retiring from Cedars-Sinai and in response to the community's need for cancer care, he established an oncology program with the Tahoe Forest Hospital District, now the Tahoe Forest Health System, based in Truckee, California. In 2012, as Founder and Medical Director, he opened the Gene Upshaw Memorial Tahoe Forest Cancer Center. Also, as a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the UC Davis School of Medicine - a position he still holds today - he helped develop the UC Davis Virtual Tumor Board Project. Before this Larry served as the President of Matrix Oncology, an Oncology services company, and was the Medical Director of iKnowMed, an Oncology Electronic Medical Record.

As an XCO expert partner, in 2019 Larry supported the development of Montana-based Bozeman Health's Oncology Care System Strategic Plan. Additionally, in 2020 he was engaged by Marshall Medical Center in Northern California to develop an academic/ tertiary center partnership for its Cancer Program. Also in 2020, he advised on the mission, vision and strategy development for a new national organization focused on AYA (Adolescent and Young Adult) Cancers.

Larry completed his Medical Oncology Fellowship at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston. He has dedicated his career to oncology care and other healthcare and humanitarian projects. He is currently the Board Chair of the Institute for American Police Reform, and he has served on the Board of Directors for Operation USA, Geriatric Oncology Consortium, Tower Cancer Research Foundation, Americans for Peace Now, and The Foundation for Mideast Communication. Larry also publishes and presents, usually on the topic of state-of-the-art cancer programs in rural settings. He has been a presenter at the International Lung Cancer Congress, ASCO's Annual Quality Symposium, and a keynote presenter at the Community Lung Cancer Centers of Excellence Symposium.

In 2019, Larry joined the Strategy Advantage team as an XCO Partner. In this role, he is available as a 1:1 executive-to-executive partner for leaders changing healthcare.
